Recently, President Trump made his first appearance at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, September 19th. Likewise, while at the General Assembly Trump delivered a speech, which he orated a stern message to North Korea and their leader. A key statement that has become widely known is the following comment that Trump stated, “Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime” referring to Kim Jong Un. However, following this statement Trump then stated that the United States does have patience but will not withhold force if there is a true and physical threat to either their allies or the US itself. Afterwards though Trump sent a clear message that he has optimism that the issue at hand with North Korea can and hopefully will be solved via diplomatically through the United Nations.
Likewise, during his address Trump praised both China and Russia for their cooperation on aiding in the passage of the newest package of sanctions. Yet Trump then deviated from praise and stated that the International community must increase its activities against the Kim regime. Moreover, Trump transitioned to disparage Iran for its “destabilizing actions in the Middle East and suggested he might still withdraw from the nuclear deal that the Obama administration struck with Iran and five other U.N. members” (NPR). This is because Trump believes that the deal is ultimately a bad deal for America, but this should be taken with a grain of salt since Trump has continuously passed up the chances to ultimately discontinue the deal.
Trump also used this as another place and time to pitch his doctrine of “America First”, and yet Trump also stated that this would not impair international cooperation. Additionally, Trump stressed that the recent increases that America has initiated in the Middle East to combat the Islamic State has also recently yielded in positive outcomes. Furthermore, Trump insisted that the United States does not and will not impose their system of government on outsiders, and yet he took a staunch point of being Anti-Socialism, and while stating this Trump explained his reasoning by using current troubled areas such as Cuba and Venezuela. Additionally, the United States recently has placed sanctions on Venezuela due to its regime is quickly evolving into a dictatorship.
While at and speaking at the United Nations’ General Assembly Trump drew polite rounds of applause both before and after he spoke. When Trump voiced his concerns over Iran the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu applauded the president’s comments on Iran. However, there were many critics of Trump’s statements such as Sen.
Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif, who voiced his concerns over Trumps harsh remarks on both North Korea and Iran, in which he labeled it a serve disappointment.
