This weekend, the Bryant Players will be putting on their fall show, “Laugh Out Loud” (Cry Quietly). The play follows the lives of several young adults in New York who are trying to figure out the world of internet dating. Through the good dates and the god awful ones, they are able to learn about what they what from a partner and learn a little something about themselves. This show will having laughing in your seat and is definitely a must see this Family and Friends weekend.
The other day I had the chance to sit with Director Johanna Craig and chat about the show. Johanna is a sophomore here at Bryant and is super excited for the performances this weekend.
Lauren: What made you choose this play?
Johanna: As a whole club, Bryant Players took nominations for this show last Spring and, after doing some research, we decided we really liked the concept. We wanted a light-hearted comedy to follow the success of our Spring musical, Grease. After having the chance to read the script and dive into directing, I saw the amount of potential the show had and how funny it is.
L: What has been the best part about directing this show?
J: The best part of directing this show has being seeing it all come together piece by piece. There is a lot of work that goes into putting on a full length play and it has been awesome to see all of our hard work paying off. It is really fulfilling to see something that you have worked on since June, come alive on stage. I have a dedicated and creative cast that always keeps me on my toes. I am very thankful to have the chance to work with them all and to get to know them.
L: Why should people come see the play this weekend?
J: In general, Bryant does not have a huge Performance Arts focus. Naturally as a business school, the Arts aren’t always a priority, and that’s understandable. But I do think it is really important for Bryant students to see a completely different world happening outside of business and academics. We put our hearts into our productions and we love to share with others what we love so much. “Laugh Out Loud (Cry Quietly)” is hilarious and has a large cast, so there is a pretty good chance a friend or a classmate will be performing in Janikies this weekend. Seeing this show is a great chance to get away from your busy lives and laugh out loud a little.
Make sure to catch “Laugh Out Loud (Cry Quietly) this weekend in Janikies. Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7PM and Sunday at 2PM.
