The smell of Christmas trees, the glow of lights, the ongoing creations of gingerbread houses; what could be better than the month of December? Throughout December, there is a continuous happiness because it is officially the most wonderful time of the year. There are decorations everywhere, whether it is on the lampposts that light the streets or in the mall where Santa is waiting with his elves. The holiday spirit is shown everywhere and the snowy days and fire place filled nights are just around the corner.
Let me start off by saying, I am an avid Christmas lover. I started to celebrate November 1st and I am not at all ashamed in doing so. I am always in good spirits this time of the year, so why not show my appreciation for the holiday a little earlier than the rest of the people around me? The longer the Christmas spirit is around, the better my days will become. However, one aspect of the holiday season that is my absolute favorite is the Starbucks holiday drinks. There’s peppermint mocha, chestnut praline, holiday spice, eggnog, gingerbread; the list goes on and on. This is where my holiday spirit comes from so early in the season. As soon as I walked into a Starbucks in early November, there were Christmas decorations all around, and I was surrounded by the baristas with green and red aprons; I mean what could get better than that?
As the drinks at Starbucks are an all-time season changer, so are the Christmas carols. Christmas music is one of the top 3 ways to get into the holiday spirit because when you hear Mariah Carey hit that note in “All I Want for Christmas is You,” how could you not want to sing along? It changes my mood from tired to wide awake at any time of the day. All the songs are so catchy and almost everyone knows them, which is always a plus.
One of the last reasons as to why Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year is the spirit of those around you. Although Christmas is a time where we give and receive gifts, we need to remember that the people you are surrounded by are what the holidays are all about. Yes, gifts are always a plus, but the appreciation and love that comes with those gifts is something that can never be replaced.
So, the next time you are angry about people celebrating Christmas too early, just remember, it is not to annoy you but simply remind you that this time of the year, with all of the decorations and positive spirits, is something more than a gift given to you on December 25th. It is cheerfulness, happiness, appreciation; it is the most wonderful time of the year.
