The Men’s Rugby Team kicked off Alumni Weekend at Bryant University with a strong win against Stonehill College around 10:00 AM Saturday morning.
Senior Ricky Hollis gave the Bulldogs an early lead on the Bryant pitch by scoring his first try of the season shortly after the opening kickoff. That would be his first of two on the day, with the second one coming midway through the second half.
#10 fly-half Colin “Mugsy” Henderson was on fire scoring his first try of the season as well on a perfectly executed chip kick over the Skyhawk defense, in addition to making all four extra-point kicks over the course of the match.
While Stonehill managed to squeak two tries past the Bulldog defense in the second half, junior forward Tom “Fish” Salmon secured the win with a decisive and hard hitting try late in the second half, punching a hole in the opposition’s defense.
The Bulldogs wrapped up the game against the Skyhawks with a final score of 28-14.
The forwards certainly held their own despite the Skyhawks’ determination, winning an overwhelming majority of the scrums. When asked about the team’s performance amidst the post-game excitement (both the team’s and the tailgaters’), Henderson answered, “overall we played a significantly better game … our kicking was better and definitely [our] tackling.”
